Program Information

The Swim School programs are a part of the Cascade LTCS (Learn-To-Competitive-Swim) program.

Age: 4-7 years old with limited Sessions available for 8-9 year-olds in Swim School 3

Program Focus: Developing proper swimming technique, preparing swimmers to enter Cascade Swimming Competitive Programs

Practices: 1 or 2 Training Practices per week, 45 minute practices

Swim Meets (Competitions): None

Pools: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, Canyon Meadows and Acadia Pool 

Assessment: Find out what level to register for by watching the Self Assessment Videos 

Parent Assessment: Swimmer must be able to complete all of the skills in the registered levels

 

The JOW programs are a part of the Cascade LTCS (Learn-To-Competitive-Swim) program.

Age: 6 - 9 Years 

Program Focus: Swimmers who have completed Swim School 3 or can. complete all of the skills in the JOW Self Assessment Video. 

Parent Assessment: Swimmer must be able to complete all of the skills in the registered levels

Continue to build on fundamental skills.  Introduction to swim competitions in preparation for Cascade's Competitive Swim programs (Olympic Way & JAG)

Program Practices: 2 Training Practices per week (Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday) or 1 Training Practice per week* (Saturdays)

Pools: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton and Canyon Meadows 

Duration: Full-year program with options to Start in January and April

Practice Length: 60 minutes each 

Swim Meets: 8-9 "Fundamental" (introductory) meets per season. 

*The 1x week Saturday Canyon Meadows JOW Program does not compete at Swim Meets and is sessional (11 weeks) in length: Oct-Dec; Jan-Mar; Apr-Jun.

 

Ages: 6 - 8 Years 

This is the first level of competitive swimming inside the program for our young swimmers 6-8 years of age. Swimmers learn how to swim all four strokes, and all the basics of competitive swimming. Swimmers will learn their skills in a fun team environment with very little emphasis placed on time.

Practices: 3 Training Practices per week

Pools: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton & Canyon Meadows*

Practice Length: 2 x 75 minutes plus 1 x 60 min per week.

Meets: Average one meet per month 

*There are some slight schedule adjustments in September due to facility maintenance at Canyon Meadows.

 

Age: 9 - 12 Years 

This is the first level of competitive swimming inside the program for our swimmers 9-12 years of age. New swimmers without a competitive background within this age range can join if they can complete ALL of thhe skills in the JAG White Self Assessment Video

Swimmers learn how to swim all four strokes, and all the basics of competitive swimming. Swimmers will learn their skills in a fun team environment with very little emphasis placed on time.

Practices: 3 Training Practices per week 

Pools: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton and Canyon Meadows* 

Practice Length: 2 x 75 minutes plus 1 x 60 min per week.

Swim Meets: Average one meet per month

*There are some schedule adjustments in September due to facility maintenence at Canyon Meadows.

 

Age: 11 -13 Years

This group of 12&Under swimmers are generally focused on developing excellent technical skills, improving aerobic fitness and developing body awareness and coordination.  These swimmers will have a program designed to enhance their chance of a successful and lengthy swimming career.  Competitions will be on the Invitational and Provincial levels; however emphasis from the coaches will be on skill acquisition and solid fitness as much as meet performance.

Practices: 4 Training Practices per week 

Pools: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton

Practice Length: 90 minutes each

Swim Meets: Average one meet per month 

 

Age: 8 - 10 Years 

This group of 10&Under swimmers are generally focused on developing excellent technical skills, improving aerobic fitness and developing body awareness and coordination.  These swimmers will have a program designed to enhance their chance of a successful and lengthy swimming career.  Competitions will be on the Invitational and Provincial levels; however emphasis from the coaches will be on skill acquisition and solid fitness as much as meet performance.

Practices: 4 Training Practices per week

Practice Length: 90 minutes each 

Swim Meets: Average one meet per month 

 

Age: 11+ Years 

This group is generally focused on qualifying for and competing at the Alberta Provincial and Alberta Championship levels while at the same time working to attain national standards such as Westerns and Junior national qualifying times.  Swimmers in this group will spend a great deal of training time working on developing their strokes and skills; at the same time increasing fitness and endurance.  Dryland conditioning will also be a key element of these groups.

Practices: 5-7 Training Practices per week

Pools: Repsol Sport Centre & Seton YMCA

Practice Length: 90 - 120 minutes each - 90 minutes swimming, 30 minutes dryland training

Meets: Average one meet per month 

 

Age: 12 & Over 

This group has a broad focus of competing at the National level with major competitions that include Canadian Championships, Junior Canadian Championships and Western Canadian Championships.

Practices: 6 - 8+ Training Practices per week, based on training group and Coach determination

Pools: Repsol Sport Centre

Practice Length: 90 - 120 minutes each (dryland sessions in addition)

Meets: Average one meet per month
